Beach Entry Pool

A beach entry pool offers an opportunity to discard with traditional design criteria.  In this particular design, the 6” thick by 18” wide thermaled bluestone coping is set just a half higher than the water elevation.  The affect creates an extremely placid and monolithic connection between water and land.  The spa is also set at the coping height and appears to float within the body of water…just breaking the surface as a sculptural element.

The Stonehenge backdrop was incorporated to create an embrace for this pool environment: these large stone liths rise from the landscape materializing has fingers…connected to supportive, but invisible hands from beneath.  When lit at night, the reflection from these stone liths add a dramatic quality to this space.

A large trough at the end of the pool helps to maintain the water level when the pool is either alive with sun bathers, or empty and tranquil.
